Heard it here 1st

We mentioned last week that we believed we were close to finding our next Director of Traditional Worship.  Well, close is no longer the word…

Her name is Laura
Last week, Laura Krell joined the team as our Director of Traditional Worship.  She hails from Pennsylvania and groomed her love for leading worship as a pastor’s kid, often singing and playing piano in the church her father served.  Something that she’s continued to do since.

A traveling choir from IWU captured her imagination and drew her to music as a vocation.  After graduating from IWU with an undergrad in music, she attended Ball State.  Eventually graduating with a master’s degree and Doctor of Arts in music with a focus on voice.

As you could imagine, her primary instrument is her voice (and sing she does), but it was her leadership skills and desire to develop worship leadership that captured our attention.  Her musical love is deep and broad…and her gifting matches it.  She talked about choirs and ensembles and adding more instrumentation into our worship services (If you think that might include you, feel free to contact her at lkrell@southportpres.org).

During the day, she is a music teacher in the Indianapolis Diocese.  At night, she is a single mother with two adopted children (12 and 7) and is excited to not only be a part of leading worship, but embedding her family into our church community.

Laura has already begun to fill this role and will be joining us this Sunday, though she won’t transition in full until Easter Sunday.  As she does, let’s remember to give her the space to learn who we are.  And, let’s do the hard work of discovering who God will have us become because Laura is now one of us.

So…what about the organ???
We have rounded out our worship team by hiring Sally Lantz as our accompanist.  Sally will be working directly with Laura and is an accomplished pianist, violinist, bell ringing, and has been thriving on the organ over the last few months.
