Sermon Bumper

I've been asked about the video we've been playing before our sermons as we approach Easter.

Here's the backstory...
The video is based on a Prayer of Lent put out by Freebridge Media.  I ran across it in my preparation for the weeks leading into Easter...and was absolutely captured by it.

I love the yearning and the lament in the prayer with the hope and expectation of a response from God.  I also think it captures the longing that sits in the deep recesses of our hearts.

What is the prayer...
Here are the words.  Perhaps that might serve as the backbone of a prayer for you in these last days before Easter.

Rain down on me, almighty God.
Shower me with your grace,
Flood me with your mercy,
for I am dry and barren land
consumed by the rot of my sin,
burdened beneath the weight of my transgressions.
Pour out your loving kindness
drench my heart with your presence.
Renew my soul
refresh my purpose.
reignite my passion.
Rain down on me as I own my iniquities.
Rain down on me as I humble confess.
Rain down on me as I enter your presence.
Rain down on me almighty God.

A little insider trading...
You might wonder, "Why do we do those videos anyway?"  Well, these serve 2 functions:

First..and most important...it is a digital way for us to invite you into the preaching of God's word.  At times they are informative.  At others they are evocative.  Regardless, these are designed to create a 'space' to hear God's word.

Second...and not nearly as important...it helps our camera folks 'frame' up their image.  In other words, it allows the crew to get their camera zoomed in on the preacher and in focus, so that when video ends we are ready to roll.

Thank you! The images and words in the intro video for this sermon series are stunning.

Every time we saw this video Moxie asked, "Why is that man in the rain without an umbrella?" No matter how many times we explained it. Regardless, I still appreciated the sentiment of the video. :)
